Why Natural Bathing Products are Better for You and the Planet

Why Natural Bathing Products are Better for You and the Planet

As we know from popular, high street stores that shall not be named… Many bathing products, like bath bombs and face masks, are routinely pumped full of unnatural, synthetic ingredients that are not only damaging to your skin, but to the planet too.

From glitter, also known as microplastics, to dyes and harsh chemicals, the mainstream bathing products we’re gifting and using are often far more sinister than meets the eye.

At Sento, we strive to deliver natural ingredients and products at every opportunity. We care not only about a relaxing bathing routine, but good, kind-to-skin ingredients that don’t cause irreparable damage to our planet either.

What is actually meant by ‘natural’?

On the whole, natural skincare and bathing products rely on naturally derived, plant-based ingredients offering an alternative to synthetic, manufactured components.

It is important to note that the term ‘natural,’ when referring to cosmetics, isn’t regulated, so the term can vary and is often manipulated under greenwashing tactics to convey a product as natural and kind-to-skin and planet, when in reality it has a small number of natural ingredients alongside synthetic fillers.

We view ‘natural’ as 100% vegan with sustainable ingredients sourced from nature with eco-friendly processes in place right from manufacturing through to delivery.

All of our product range is cruelty free, meaning that our products are never tested on animals. We’ve also gone out of our way to select ingredients that are safe for reefs and marine life with non-nano zinc oxide, and we only use sustainable palm oil. The majority of our range features natural, essential oils rather than artificial fragrances.

Our entire range is handmade in the UK, and we only ship to the UK. You can check out our full range here.

What’s the difference between a natural and a non-natural bathing product?

Natural products will feature ingredients derived solely from nature, such as plant extracts. On the other hand, non-natural products are heavily manufactured with a heavy focus on cheaper, synthetic ingredients. Below are some non-natural ingredients to avoid that routinely damage our environment:

Glitter: although pretty to look at, are just a disguised version of harmful microplastics. Microplastics pose health risks to both humans and wildlife, carry harmful chemicals, interfere with biological processes and can take hundreds of thousands of years to completely break down.

Parabens: used as preservatives, parabens have been linked to disrupting estrogenic and androgenic receptors that might affect the prostate.

Synthetic sulfates: frequently strip the skin of natural oils and lead to dryness.

How is natural better for the environment?

Natural skincare ingredients are generally better for the environment because they are often biodegradable, renewable, and sustainably sourced, leading to less pollution and a more sustainable ecosystem.

Unlike synthetic alternatives, they tend to break down harmlessly, reducing environmental impact and promoting a healthier planet.

On the other hand, synthetic skincare ingredients frequently harm the environment as they often involve harmful chemicals, persist in the environment, and can release toxic substances when disposed of or washed down drains.

Opting for naturally derived ingredients means opting for a clean and safe planet.
